13 Hours (2010)

Ever since I was a little kid, I <3 horror movies.... Only god knows how many times I went to the rent store, took some bloody flicks with me and convinced the guy it was for my mom (which wasn't completely a lie by the way...  just sayin').

I have to admit that lately I've kinda became a pussy in that regard. I cannot watch movies like Saw and Hostel anymore. I liked Saw 1 and 2 a lot, and Hostel 2 wasn't too bad either, but the other ones are just... waaaaaaaaaay too bloody, and I just don't see the point anymore in watching movies like that.

Anywayz...

I watched 13 Hours a few days ago, and although it gave a bit of a cheap impression at the beginning and people kinda did the most retarded things, I have to say... I still kinda enjoyed it :). Since it has the same producer as Dog Soldiers, I kinda remembered I still have to watch that one as well! I hear so much good stuff about that one....

Storyline: Sarah Tyler returns to her troubled family home in the isolated countryside, for a much put-off visit. As a storm rages outside, Sarah, her family and friends shore up for the night, cut off from the outside world. But something comes out of the driving rain and darkness. Something that holds a dark secret so devastating that, in one night, it could wipe out the entire family.

My opinion: to put it shortly => quite some people die, acting was doable, not too bloody, monster-mutant tearing people apart, ending wasn't too bad imo and effects weren't really awesome but good enough...

Skyline (2010)

Directors: Colin Strause, Greg Strause
Writers: Joshua Cordes, Liam O'Donnell
Storyline: Strange lights descend on the city of Los Angeles, drawing people outside like moths to a flame where an extraterrestrial force threatens to swallow the entire human population off the face of the Earth.

My opinion:

When I watched the trailer I thought "OMG, finally another good sci-fi movie!". You have to admit. The concept is scary and interesting. I really don't know what I would do in a situation like that! It is such a hopeless situation....First you have the lights coming out of the sky, then you see huge spaceships appear out of nowhere, then you have the aliens who check for any survivors and some huge ones to make sure you cannot escape them, and if you were still to survive all that, there are still the... euhm... HUUUUUUUUUGE SPACESHIPS WHICH SUCK YOU IN... yeah... pretty hopeless, right?!

What I thought about the movie itself?
Well, the acting wasn't really great imo, but I did like the realistic vibe of the movie. I cannot say I really cared for the characters, but it is not the type of movie you watch because you hope they will make it. To be honest. I couldn't wait to see them die lolz! I did like the action scenes a lot though! They made the movie watchable.

What can I say about the ending, without spoiling anything...
I still don't know whether I liked it or hated it. It was a bit of a bizar ending imo. I did read there might come a sequel. Don't know if I am going to watch that one though. This one was watchable, but nothing special imo so...

Devil (2010)

Director: John Erick Dowdle
Written by: M. Night Shyamalan and Brian Nelson
Storyline: A group of people trapped in an elevator realize that the devil is among them.

My opinion:
Imagine yourself stuck in an elevator with 4 other people and one by one they are getting killed. You cannot get out and it seems you are stuck in there with some wacko Jacko who prefers to do a little bit of killing when the lights go out. (I can't help but to wonder if there is going to be some cheap ass porn version based on this movie, because you have to admit, it might be a hilarious one! On second thought, Hentai would probably be more appropriate. Just sayin'...).

Anyway, that is basically what these people are dealing with. The only thing they don't know yet is that it's not just a lunatic they are up against but something supernatural. Yeah, I think it is needless to say it doesn't look too good for them.

I did like the concept a lot. Big plus there for our Mr. M. Night Shyamalan! I have to admit that after The Last Airbender I really started to doubt him, but with this movie he didn't do too bad imo. The acting and directing was ok, but somehow something was still missing.  The characters weren't worked out well and although there was a pretty good build up, which prepared you for some really cool climax, it never came. A pity because with a concept like this....

Conclusion: The movie was watchable, but could have been a lot better.

One thing I can say for sure is... it is A LOT better than The Last Shitbender, which is not really an accomplishment ofcourse but still...

Well time to watch something I DO like a lot... The Walking Dead.

Zombies FTW!!!
